Meet Your Instructor
Thank you for visiting my website !
My name is Valencia Thevenin, and my journey with the violin began at the age of twelve after being inspired by a solo violin performance at my church. What started as a moment of inspiration has grown into a fulfilling career in music education spanning over twenty years, teaching students from the elementary to collegiate levels.
Throughout my career, I have worked with the Mississippi Youth Symphony Orchestra, directed the Albemarle Symphony Orchestra, and performed with the Civic Symphony Orchestra of Boston. I have also served as President of the Southeast Region of the College Orchestra Directors Association and am a proud member of the International Conductor’s Guild.
In 2017, I became the first woman of African descent to earn a Ph.D. from the University of Mississippi — a milestone that continues to inspire my commitment to excellence and representation in the arts.
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy using my musical gifts to serve my church and community, spending quality time with my children, traveling, and meeting new people. I look forward to sharing my passion and expertise in string music with you.
